How often do you look through a magazine full of celebrities and think, “Her long, perfect mermaid hair would make my dreams come true,” or “Does every celebrities all have beautiful long, thick hair?”
Many celebrities wear hair extensions as their secret to longer and/or thicker hair. Hair extensions have become an essential tool to creating so many of the beautiful styles that you see in the magazines and on the runways and red carpets. They are an asset to making your hair dreams come true if you weren’t born with thick or long hair.
What should you know about hair extensions if you are considering this service?
the magic of tape-in extensions
caring for them at home
do’s and dont’s
So, lets break down! We offer Hot Heads Tape-In Extensions at Spark for a few reasons, they are efficient to apply which saves you time and money, the hair is extremely high quality, and you will have less damage to your natural because you are able to move the extensions back up to the scalp. You are able to create multi-dimensional color, add highlights and pops of fantasy colors with our extensions. It is so fun to create a look personalized for you. These extensions are light weight and comfortable to wear. Typically you can go two times longer than the length of your hair and still have your extensions look natural. The length that can be worn is determined by the current haircut, and by the length and density of the current hair. The typical tape-in hair extensions application takes less than 2 hours to create your desired look. Your current hair length does decide how long your hair extensions can be.
When wearing tape-in hair extensions you will be visiting the salon every 6-8 weeks for a maintenance appointment. During this appointment, if you color your hair, you will want to plan for your normal color appointment as well as maintenance to move your hair extensions up. This visit helps to prevent damage to your hair by eliminating weight or tension from the extensions growing out too far. Our favorite part about the Hot Heads extensions that we offer is the ability to move the extensions back up to the scalp up to 3 times. If properly taken care of, these extensions can be worn up to 6-8 months. Your maintenance visit will take a few hours plus coloring time if necessary to remove the extensions and move them up on the hair strand.
Caring for Extensions at Home
At home, you will want to make sure that you are gentle when brushing or combing your hair. Your stylist will recommend products that are best for your new hair. Be sure to keep oils and silicone serums away from the tapes. These products can break down the medical grade adhesive and cause the extensions to slide out. Air drying these extensions is okay! But, if you are blow drying, curling, or flat ironing, be sure to keep high amounts of heat off of the tapes.
The investment for hair extensions varies based on the look you are trying to achieve. We require a complimentary consultation with our stylists to color match and to figure out the length and amount of hair that you will need for your desired style. The longer and fuller the look, the bigger the investment. Typically, most of our clients range between $600 to $1100 for the initial installation. This investment includes the hair, installation, and blending haircut. The maintenance visits also depend on the amount of hair being added, they range from $100 to $250 every 6-8 weeks.
Wait 24-48 hours before washing or chemically processing your hair.
Use a soft, boar bristle brush; starting at the ends and working your way up, always brushing in a downward motion. Brush before shampooing to keep hair from matting.
Use a nourishing leave-in conditioner from midshaft to ends, keeping away from the tape tabs. For the best results use products that your stylist recommends for at home care and maintenance.
Wear your hair in a ponytail or loose braid when swimming, exercising and sleeping.
Have a licensed professional remove and reapply your extensions.
Don’t use any products containing alcohol, oil, or ethanol. Alcohol based products are drying to the hair and can compromise the strength of the adhesive bond.
Don’t brush hair harshly.
Don’t go to bed with wet hair.
Don’t chemically process your hair at home. Rely on your salon professional for any services while wearing extensions.
Don’t remove your extensions yourself.
