Now Trending: Fall '16

It always feels a little odd getting excited about Fall fashions. Summer feels like it just got here, and I've yet to 1) have a chic picnic 2) sun myself on a boat 3) eat a Sno-Cone 4) do an infinite number of 'summer things' that I pretend to check off my imaginary list before Fall arrives; chilly and abruptly. But alas, as neon notebooks and mechanical pencils blind me strolling through Target, I realize that Fall really is just around the corner. The humidity is winning the war against my hair, I have hardly a hint of a sun tan, and *poof* - it's August.

So, in an effort to recapture the feeling of possibility and 'who-do-I-want-to-be-this-year,' I dove into the Autumn/Winter runway shows and campaigns to scour what's going to be hot hot hot this season. It's still 90 degrees outside, but imagining myself with an apple cider clutched in my mittened hand, donning the Fall trends is making me long for cooler days. I hope you're getting as giddy as I am.

Dusty Pink: this soft, transitional shade is going to be everywhere this fall. It compliments every skin tone incredibly, and I'm especially adoring this 70's vibey jumpsuit on Gwyneth.

Dark Fairytale: Drapey, dramatic dresses and dark Victorian floral prints are a cool, mysterious take on dresses for fall. Peeks of lace and gilded details give them a moody, ultra-feminine edge.

Peekaboo Lace: This trend certainly isn't new this season, but it's been given a dark, flirty revamp in shades of navy, slate, and oxblood. Play around with gold jewelry for a hipper feel.

The New Pantsuit: The 80's power suit is back but infinitely cooler- think fun, patterened separates and dramatic shapes that will look just as chic in the office as they will grabbing appetizers and wine with your girlfriends.

Boy's Club: The menswear take gets toughened up, shredded, and too-cool-for-school.

The Bomber: The bomber is this season's peacoat. Playful shades, patterns, and graphic prints give these jackets a fun, punky spin. Versatility is key with the bomber: it looks just as cool paired with denim as it does slung over a cotton dress.

Cozy Everything: Thankfully, big, chunky knits will never go out of style. Intricate stitching gives this fisherman sweater a modern feel, and layering it with soft socks and a mug of hot cocoa makes the perfect excuse to be snowed in.

What trends are you excited to rock this Fall? I'd love to know!

How To: Top Knot

Perfectly imperfect top knots, demystified. (We promise it's easier than you think.)

Tools: Fine-tooth comb, hair binder, bobby pins, Kerastase VIP Volume Powder, L'Oreal Professionnel Extreme Lacquer Hairspray, L'Oreal Professionnel OrGraphic Gel.

Step 1: Starting at the root and moving throughout the crown of the head, prep hair with VIP Volume Powder (this works even better if hair is a little "dirty.")

Step 2: Using the comb, backcomb sections of hair around the crown, avoiding combing against the hairline. Think LOTS of volume! The bigger the better here.

Step 3: Pull hair up into a high ponytail and secure with a hair binder. Apply a dime-size amount of OrGraphic onto your finger, and rub it around the hairline and crown to smooth flyaways. Use more if you want a sleeker look!

Step 4: Wrap ponytail around the base of the crown in a circular motion, securing random sections with bobby pins as you go. Once all the hair has been pinned into a bun, gently pull on small sections creating a piecey, disheveled look. Finish by spraying Extreme Lacquer to secure the style. Yay!

How To: Beach Waves

You know those girls with the seemingly effortless, just-finished-surfing, how-did-you-get-it-so-perfectly-touseled waves? Yeah, us too. But we're letting you in on a secret: it's easier than you think. Follow our step by step guide for beautifully disheveled, beachy waves and you too can be that girl.

Tools: 2” curling iron
Products: L’Oreal Professionnel Infinium 3 Hairspray, L’Oreal Professionnel Beach Waves spray, and L’oreal Professionnel Next Day Hair.

Step 1: Divide hair into 2 sections- a “top” and “bottom” section. Clip top section of hair on the crown of the head to keep it out of the way.

Step 2: Spritz bottom section of hair with Infinium 3.

Step 3: Working in 1”-2” sections, curl hair, wrapping it around the barrel of the curling iron, making sure to curl hair away from the face.

Step 4: Unclip top section of the hair, and repeat steps 2 and 3.

Step 5: Let hair cool for 5 minutes. Spritz with Next Day Hair, gently “breaking up” the curls. Mist Beach Waves throughout the hair, ruffling and tousling as you go. Messy, just-finished-surfing is what you’re going for!
